Hobbled

I think I overdid it last weekend. A PR in a 5k on Saturday followed by a 16 mile long on Sunday = a sore knee on Monday, and Tuesday, and Wednesday . . . .

Needless to say my mileage is way down this week.  I rested Monday and Tuesday, got in a slow 3 mile recovery run on Wednesday, and another slow 2 miles this morning. The first 1.5 miles this morning was pain free, so it looks like its improving.

I’ll take it easy this weekend, skip the 17 miles I had scheduled for Sunday and hope the rest will be enough to put things right again.

All this rest is driving me crazy. I think running has become an addiction.

  1. Rest-Ice-Compression-Elevation. Just thought I'd pass on some good advice for sore knees! Not sure that us runners are good at following RICE for injuries but in theory it is a good idea! :)

  2. @Shannon - Thanks. I C and E are easy. It's the R for Rest that's the hard part. :)

  3. Um . . . no long runs after a 5K PR!!! (Ha, like I know what I'm talking about ... except that when I had my 5K PR I went for a long run the next day - and welcomed hip bursitis into my life. It SUCKED!)

Running is quite the fun addiction though - right?

  4. Rest is a tough one sometimes - especially if you are competing against others to keep your mileage up. But you need to balance ego, desire, and your body.

  5. I know the feeling, rest is as maddening as a taper!! But it's very very very good for you, so try & enjoy it. & feel better!
